Part One - Planted
The seed reflected on its past
Using its pain as motivation
To succeed and to last
To endure to its end
The seed drank up that which was offered
And grew confident and strong
By the loving hand of The Farmers
The seed learned to move on
The seed stretched itself out
Digging and pushing its roots
Reaching and climbing its sprout
Imagining it’d nourish, and bear much fruit
The seed knew its journey
To the surface would be long
Though it’d never occurred certainly
How much could go wrong
The seed, surrounded by dark
Felt alone and unsure
What had started out with so much heart
Began to slow, and eye the lure
The seed wondered how it was
That through the pure soil it seemed
To be among the only ones
Searching and listening
The seed saw others lose hope
That the surface existed
That there was point to grow
When it was easier to resist it
The seed felt alone and doubtful
Questioning whether it was going up
But ultimately feeling the sun’s pull
Wondering if it was enough
If enough were a simple seed
Struggling to find the air
Yearning to be free
Trying to prepare
If enough was so far from perfect
As to let this struggling seed count
Enough to join with the elect
To be part of what they’d amount
The seed dreamed to amount to much
To be an influence and to inspire
To seek many hearts to touch
But did it truly have what that would require
The seed wanted to be strong
To grow tall without an effort
To empathize and belong
To not be stopped by trivial hurt
It hated the emotions which controlled it
Despised that it let doubt rule
It cried out at letting itself feel defeated
And was disappointed when it convinced itself it was a fool
The seed tried so hard to change
To let happiness garnish its life
To not let itself feel unwanted or strange
To let honest laughter always be rife
As the seed reached for the sun
It tried to deny conflicting thought
From affecting its roots, nor anyone
Whether seeking to destroy or not
Each day the seed grew closer
To breaking the soil’s crest
The seed knew then its journey would not be over
That it would still not be at rest
Upward the seed did sprout
To see the sun, to feel its assurance
To get closer to face the world full out
To be among other growing plants
The seed broke the soft surface
To the air and to the light
Relief had come at last
The cool warmth felt so right
